What height should a wash hand basin be?

It’s recommended that a commercial wash basin is installed between 800mm and 850mm above ground level so it’s comfortable for users to wash their hands. That said, the right height for your commercial wash hand basin will depend on who it will be used by - for example, commercial basins for those with disabilities should sit lower at around 720mm to 740mm above the floor so they are accessible.

How to clean a bathroom wash basin

You should always ensure that your washrooms are hygienic and inviting for users, cleaning them daily. You can easily clean a commercial hand wash basin by spraying the sink and taps with bathroom cleaner and wiping them with a soft cloth.

How to install a wash hand basin

The precise steps involved in installing a wash hand basin will depend on the type of wash hand basin you have. Below is a basic outline of the steps involved:

  1. Determine the right height for your basin (considering who will be using the facilities) and mark where it will sit.

  2. Measure the distance from the top of the basin to the fixing holes and the distance between the fixing holes.

  3. If you’re hanging a wall-hung wash basin, you’ll need to mark out the location of your wall anchors and drill your anchor points before fixing your basin to the wall.

  4. Connect your water supply and ensure there aren’t any leaks.

It’s recommended that you hire a professional plumber to install a commercial wash hand basin. Here at Commercial Washrooms, we offer a design, supply and fit service - find out more about our washroom refurbishment here.

How to choose a wash basin

To help you decide which commercial hand wash basin is right for your washroom facilities, consider the following:

  • How much available space do you have? If you need a space-efficient option, you could consider inset basins which sit within a vanity unit.

  • What is your budget? How much you’re able to spend on refurbishing your bathroom will undoubtedly impact your decision so make sure you get the best value for your money.

  • What is your washroom’s style? - you should consider the aesthetics of your bathroom and whether a modern or traditional commercial wash basin will be best.
