Male, Female & Disabled Toilets Refurbishment - Little Ship Club, London - Case Study

The Little Ship Club is a restaurant and social club that sits on the bank of the River Thames right in the heart of London. Popular with the yachting crowd, the club also has a healthy revenue from event hire and following an increased interest in wedding bookings, Little Ship Club wanted to upgrade their washrooms, including improving their disabled toilet facilities.

With regular bookings already scheduled, the problem Little Ship Club faced was getting the toilets refurbished in a short timeframe so as not to disturb their revenue from venue hire.

The Little Ship Club has some beautiful French polished wooden doors and doorframes throughout the property and these were also a feature in the washroom. We worked carefully to preserve these integral features and ensured they still fit seamlessly into their new modern washroom facilities.

Blanc concealed trap urinals were installed against IPS duct panel systems to leave absolutely no exposed pipework, making for a washroom that’s easy to clean and maintain. The urinals also benefited from being paired with sensor-activated flush controls. Meanwhile, in the toilet cubicles, a half-height IPS duct panel system was installed so as to create a shelf behind the toilet for users to place a hat or bag on, a feature the client was very keen on. The back to wall toilets were partnered with simple Torrent push-button flushers and left a sharp looking and easy to clean toilet space.

Durable, anti-slip Altro vinyl flooring was installed to aid safety and stand up to the heavy foot traffic this washroom can see. The walls were tiled halfway up, with a silk grey paint finish above. The washbasin area was constructed from a solid grade laminate carcass and a Corian solid surface vanity top above that featured under counter ceramic basins. This setup further improved the easy clean nature of this washroom design meaning Little Ship Club’s new washrooms were not only more modern and refreshed, but easier to maintain at the same time.

Biodryer Lite electric hand dryers were installed which delivered several benefits. The sensor-activated hand dryer does not need to be physically touched, meaning hygiene is improved in the washroom. The hand dryer uses a lower amount of electricity than alternative dryers, and the use of a hand dryer meant no need for keeping a paper hand towel dispenser topped up.

During this washroom refurbishment, we worked with a specialist to overcome rising damp issues that had been plaguing the site for some time. After exposing the problem, the bottom lower edge of the walls were lined to prevent the rising damp from returning.

Working in the bustling heart of the city can pose many restrictions to building works, not least the parking and management of multiple trades. The access to Little Ship Club was limited, which meant meticulous management of deliveries and careful rotation of material storage.

Little Ship Club’s washroom refurbishment was carried out smoothly, on time and on a budget, tackling persistent rising damp issues and improving disabled washroom facilities to enable them to get the licence needed to be used as a wedding venue.
