Most shower trays are available in a white finish and are made to a robust quality so that they can withstand most commercial showers and changing room environments.

Options are available for both slimline shower trays suited for installations where the trap can be installed beneath the floor or with a riser kit, enabling the tray to be lifted above floor level and creating space for the shower waste and pipework beneath.

How to fit a shower tray

 

If you do not have experience in fitting a shower tray or are not confident with this task, we recommend that you hire a professional to carry out the work to avoid any unnecessary damage. 

There are different types of shower trays available, including low profile shower trays which are nearly level with the floor - therefore, you may need to follow different steps depending on the style of shower tray you go for. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to fit a standard shower tray:

 

1. You will need to mark the desired shower tray position

 

Using a pencil or some masking tape, outline the location you wish to fit your shower tray. If your shower tray comes with adjustable legs, you will need to adjust these to the right height (you can use a spirit level to ensure that the shower tray is flat).

 

2. See how the shower tray waste lines up 

 

You need to make sure that the shower tray can connect to your water wastage. Lightly attaching your shower tray waste before installation will allow you to make any necessary adjustments. 

 

3. Line up your side panels to see how they will look (you may need to trim them if the height is not right).

4. Ensure that your shower tray is level

 

Before you go any further, make sure that your shower tray is level with a spirit level and check that the shower tray legs are secure - whether you need to fit the shower legs with screws or adhesive pads will depend on the make and model you have.  

 

5. Attach your shower tray waste trap to water waste 

 

If you spot any leaks you must remove the connections and start again. A good way to test for leaks is by pouring some water through your shower tray waste. 

 

6. Apply a silicone sealant around the edges of your shower tray and leave to set

7. Apply wall panels or tiling around the shower tray

8. Install the side panels 

 

You may need clips to secure them but many shower tray side panels will fit into place without other fixtures.

 

How to clean a shower tray

 

Here are a few easy ways to clean a shower tray:

• Bathroom cleaner - there are many bathroom cleaner solutions on the market at a low price which are designed to tackle stubborn shower tray stains.

• Lemon juice - try rubbing a lemon or applying lemon juice to the surface of your shower tray and rinsing the area clean with hot water - it’s a simple yet effective way to keep washrooms fresh and clean. 

• Baking soda - baking soda is a great way to get rid of grime. Simply make a paste of baking soda and water and rub it over your shower tray. Allow some time for the baking soda to work its magic and rinse your shower tray with warm water afterwards. 

 

Try to avoid using scouring pads or steel wool as these can cause damage to shower trays.

The shower tray you decide to buy will depend on the amount of space available in your washroom and the style and finish you feel will work best.
