10 Ways To Keep Your School Washroom Clean and Efficient: Part One

10 Ways To Keep Your School Washroom Clean and Efficient: Part One

With the kids all heading back to school we take a look at how best to ensure your school washroom is kept clean and efficient.

Part one looks at how scheduling frequent cleaning and maintenance, utilising different components and proving all the required disposal facilities can help the washroom stand the test of time.

A cleaning programme (with regular check-ups)

If your school is fortunate enough to have a cleaner on duty during school hours regular check-ups to all toilets is a good way to maintain cleanliness and sort out any litter, or alike, scattered around.

A cleaning programme can also help to create a schedule for what time cleaners should visit, such as busy periods, which are usually after lunchtime, or a deep clean at the end of the week.

Encourage hand washing

Providing hygiene signs to remind students, and staff, to properly wash their hands helps to reduce the number of bacteria within a washroom due to the higher student hygiene rate. Washing your hands also further reduces the risk of illness’ spreading between students and reducing days taken off due to sickness.

Liquid Soap Dispensers

Using liquid soap dispensers rather than bar soap is more cost-effective, cleaner and less wasteful. This is due to the amount of soap used and how long it lasts. Usually, with bar soap, there is a higher percentage of bacteria left upon the surface of the bar that others can pick up. Although they will be washing their hands shortly afterwards there is still a higher chance of infection.

Bar soap is also more inefficient as it takes longer to lather up, therefore there is more possibility of the bar being wasted, as well as small amounts being thrown away due to the difficulty of use.

At Commercial Washrooms we have a range of soap dispensers available, one of our most popular models is Polished Stainless Steel Refillable Soap Dispenser.

Hand Dryers

Hand dryers are usually eco-friendlier and less expensive to run compared to the use of paper towels. Paper towels can easily be wasted, as over 3,000 tons are thrown away each day in the US.
A hand dryer is also more cost-effective, costing between 0.02 pence and 0.18 pence in electricity per dry vs roughly 1 penny per sheet of paper towels. Therefore, dryers are significantly better for the environment and for the cost of your company.

At Commercial washrooms, we provide many models of hand dryers, including the Fast Dry Stainless Steel Hand Dryer, which is one of our most eco-friendly and popular products.

Provide Bins

Providing bins within school washrooms means there is less chance of litter. It is recommended that there are 2 bins within washrooms, one for recycling and another for other waste. Supplying bins means that there is a higher chance of litter being thrown in the bin rather than on the floor, meaning the washroom itself will be considerably cleaner and tidier, making it a better space for students to use.

Commercial washrooms have a range of bins with the Bristan 5 Litre Pedal Waste Bin being the most popular for washrooms of this type.
