Corfe Castle Public Toilet Specification and Refurbishment - Case Study

Corfe Castle Public Toilet Specification and Refurbishment - Case Study

Situated next to the 11th-century castle from which it takes its name, the village of Corfe Castle sits at the heart of the Purbeck Hills. With the iconic castle drawing crowds all year round, the need for clean, attractive public toilet facilities close to the castle is clear.

Purbeck District Council electing to refurbish the existing toilet block at the foot of the castle, Commercial Washrooms were asked to assist with the specification and supply of new fixtures and fittings that would give the block a welcome facelift.

Robust, efficient, clean Washroom Renovation

With thousands of visitors every year, the need for robust, vandal-resistant, and easy to maintain products was key to the project, and with so many potential users passing through, the council was keen to include energy-efficient and water-saving components where possible.

Armitage Shanks’ range of commercial sanitary ware was a clear choice for fitting out the building – easy to maintain and source replacement parts for in case of repairs, cost-efficient, and attractive. Dart Valley Systems individual sensor flushes on the WC’s and urinals with adjustable flush volumes helped reduce unnecessary wastage of water, whilst also providing a hygienic no-touch component to the toilet areas.

Tristone solid surface vanity tops with integrated moulded basins on Solid Grade Laminate underframes are hard-wearing and easy to repair and clean. Coupled with Dart Valley Systems Aquarius sensor taps in the hand wash and disabled cubicle areas, and new energy-efficient water heaters, further enhanced the hygienic, energy-efficient, and water-saving specification begun with the sensor-controlled flushes.

With new slip-resistant porcelain tiles on the floor and the walls and ceiling protected by Whiterock Hygienic Cladding, the specification was complete, with all the exposed areas renewed and easy to clean and maintain.

Washroom refurbishment feedback

Completed during the winter in good time for the busy spring and summer seasons, the refurbishment has more than met with Purbeck District Council’s satisfaction, with the specification likely to be rolled out to further sites in due course.
