National Oceanographic Centre Southampton - Case Study

National Oceanography Centre Washroom Refurbishments

The National Oceanography Centre (NOC) is a world-leading UK-based research institute specialising in ocean science, technology, and marine systems modelling.
As an independent charity funded by UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), it provides national capabilities, including research ships and marine data, to study climate change, sea levels, and the ocean.
Commercial Washrooms were commissioned to upgrade the existing Washrooms including:
- Men’s Changing Rooms (remodelled)
- Women’s Changing Rooms
- Male Toilets
- Female Toilets
- Three Document M Accessible Toilets
The refurbishment project was not a standard project, the NOC building was very highly specified with Cast Iron Pipework (no plastic) along with 50mm Copper waste pipes instead of Plastic waste.
High-quality pipework and materials had to be maintained throughout the refurbishment and existing Washroom Lighting was upgraded to Thorlux SmartScan lighting.
Some of the quality products used include Stature SGL Full-Height Toilet Cubicles with Stainless Steel Hardware in Banian Blanchi woodgrain and complementary Banian Noirci and IPS Duct sets.
A number of different Corian Solid Surface Vanity Tops were installed with Armitage Shanks Contour 21 Thermostatic Sequential Basin Lever Mixer Taps.
The Changing Rooms were completed with Armitage Shanks Markwik 21+ Shower Panel with Thermostatic Valve. and Garren Lockers in Banian Blanchi woodgrain and complementary Banian Noirci.
