Changing room lockers FAQs

How to keep gym locker from smelling

Lockers should be cleaned daily to prevent odours from building and to keep the locker hygienic for users. At the end of each day, items inside the locker should be removed (especially dirty sportswear or wet swimwear) and thoroughly cleaned out with antibacterial cleaning products. Furthermore, the changing room should be well ventilated to prevent moisture from circulating in the air.

Why not browse our range of washroom ventilation to keep your facilities smelling fresh and inviting?

How wide is a locker door?

How wide a locker door is can vary depending on model and size but the typical width of a locker door is between 250mm to 600mm.

Why do lockers have vents?

Lockers have vents to allow clean air to circulate the locker which helps to prevent bad odours from building inside and allows wet clothes to dry out better. Without vents in lockers, more water would remain on the interior and mould and mildew could form in the moist environment which presents a health risk.

How do lockers work?

Lockers are used to keep personal belongings or valuable items safe in gyms, schools, leisure centres, offices and other commercial environments. How a locker will work depends on the style of locking system it has (coin operated, electronic, combination locks, cam locks and or hasp locks) but it’s simple for users to operate; they simply need to place their items in the locker and safely lock their belongings away either by entering a code, using a padlock, inserting a coin or using a key.

What are lockers made of?

Here at Commercial Washrooms, we supply changing room lockers in solid grade laminate (SGL), wood veneer and powder coated steel for metal lockers as these are durable materials. The best locker material for you and your business will depend on factors such as whether it is for a wet or dry area as some materials are designed to be waterproof whereas others may be prone to water damage.

What do you put in a locker?

Lockers are very versatile and can be useful in a number of locations but changing room lockers are ideal for schools, leisure centres, gyms, healthcare settings and other areas where people may need to change and store their belongings in a safe place.

Why lockers are important

Lockers are an important for many businesses for the following reasons:

  • They keep changing rooms and areas tidy, making a good impression on visitors, clients and customers.

  • Locker users feel assured that their personal belongings are safe.

  • They are safer - lockers help to prevent trip hazards and loose clothing and bags can be stored away when not in use.
