A New Approach for Social Club Washrooms

A New Approach for Social Club Washrooms

Traditionally, the washrooms in places like British Legions and Conservative clubs have veered heavily towards function over form. However, thanks to developments in washroom durability and design, many social club environments are embracing a more colourful and sophisticated finish in their washrooms, which is changing the way these establishments are perceived.

It used to be function over form

Of course, high functioning washrooms are a prerequisite. With these spaces often being hired out for weddings and birthday parties, they need to be easy to clean and highly durable. In the past, this might have limited the options for internal refits, leaning heavily on bland colourways and unattractive features.

But things are different today

Clean, modern and welcoming washrooms now play an integral role in the success of many businesses. Some of the most highly durable materials now come in a wide spectrum of colours and custom dimensions. Even items like sinks and toilets are getting subtle but significant refinement in their design, which is helping transform their appearance with no detriment to durability.

And comfort is key

Often, it’s about creating a warm, welcoming space that people want to spend time in. This ethos follows through into the washrooms too, with the gentle comforts pictured on the walls and soft lighting all working to improve usability. This increased comfort and homeliness needn’t be harder to maintain either. The need for washrooms to be easy to clean can be integrated into the specification and counteracted at every turn. Wall-mounted dispensers, sinks and even toilets all help to keep the floor clear for easy mopping. Large-format wall tiles and wall cladding reduce the number of joins, areas prone to bacteria build-up. Meanwhile, sensor-activated taps, flushers, lights and hand dryers can mean reduced interaction with facilities, less dirt being spread around the room and improved hygiene.

Gain a smarter look

A bank of toilet cubicles can be smartened no end by using bold colours, laminate graphics, or even going full-height. The benefit of full height cubicles means you almost partition off the toilet cubicles from the rest of the room. These cubicles not only give users increased privacy but also make a refreshing change from seeing the support bars beneath toilet cubicles.

And the rewards of improved washrooms

Improving amenities in the social club environment can help attract new venue hires for weddings, engagement parties and birthdays, but also for regular weekly classes such as yoga, pilates and circuit training. Memberships to a club could also rise due to the precedent they set, and retention could be higher for existing members. Above all though, the durability credentials of many washroom fixtures and fittings mean a new install or refurbishment is going to stay looking fresh, welcoming and clean much longer than predecessors.
