Medical Sinks and Troughs for use in any Hospital and Clinical settings

Medical sinks used in hospitals and healthcare environments must comply with stringent regulations and undergo rigorous testing to minimise the spread of infections and maintain high standards of hygiene in their facilities. Choose from our range of high-quality washbasins, manufactured from stainless steel or ceramic, that have passed the strict HBN0010 Part C, HTM64 and HTM04-01 regulations governing their manufacture and installation. Be assured that our medical basins adhere to strict infection control measures and are designed with durability and ease of use in mind.

Our selection of hospital basins is suitable for other healthcare environments, such as dentists' and doctors' surgeries, as well as medical clinics and schools. They comply with the applicable regulations, including HTM 04-01 (Safe Water in Healthcare Premises) and HTM 64 (Health Technical Memorandum 64), which provide guidelines specifically for the healthcare sector when refurbishing facilities. Some sinks have a horizontal rear outlet, and others have a vertical waste outlet.

Medical basins are typically mounted to a wall or IPS duct panel, with the waste and water feed pipework connected from the rear. These medical sinks should be installed with a regulated Medical Tap to ensure compliance with the UK healthcare regulations. The Commercial Washrooms specification team will be happy to advise on the most suitable tap and IPS panel set to suit the needs of your Washroom Refurbishment project. Feel free to get in touch for independent specialist advice.

We work closely with the UK's leading commercial sanitaryware manufacturers to bring you the largest selection of medical basins available online. Our sanitaryware suppliers include high-quality brands such as Armitage Shanks, Twyford, and RAK Ceramics. All of our medical sink prices are displayed online and available for rapid delivery throughout the UK.

Many common questions and general advice on Commercial Sinks can be found by reading our blogs on Washroom Sinks and HTM64. However, please feel free to contact us today if you are interested in learning more about any of our other washroom products.

Our team can provide specialised advice on the ideal medical sinks for your healthcare environment.

Medical sinks FAQs

How to clean a hospital sink

It’s essential to ensure that your medical basins are cleaned regularly to maintain good hygiene in your facilities and to keep your staff, patients, and visitors safe from contracting infections and diseases. Here’s a quick step-by-step guide on how to clean a Hospital Sink:

  • Gather all the necessary cleaning equipment (this includes cloths, buckets, gloves, an apron, a non-abrasive pad, cleaning agent, paper towels, and warning signs to place in the area in case of any water spillages that pose a slip hazard).
  • Wash your hands before you put on your gloves.
  • Make up your cleaning agent.
  • Post warning signs to inform others that the area may be wet and slippery.
  • Perform a visual inspection of the environment, looking for misplaced equipment, any scale on the taps, and blockages that will need to be removed. You should also remove any rubbish from the area and give any personal items left next to the medical basins to the nursing staff.
  • Dry the area with paper towels before applying chemicals to prevent diluting the cleaning chemicals.
  • Wipe the tap with a cloth and use a tap filter to absorb any contaminants from the spout as water passes through.
  • Clean the basin with a new cloth.
  • Note: Change your gloves if they come into contact with any contamination.

Why are medical wash basins important?

Medical wash basins are designed explicitly for healthcare settings and must conform to HTM64 and HTM04-01 regulations, ensuring they are safe for use and effective in preventing the spread of infections. Medical basins are therefore crucial for ensuring maximum hygiene in clinical and healthcare settings such as hospitals and surgeries.

What are medical wash basins made from?

The medical wash basins we offer for sale here at Commercial Washrooms are made from either stainless steel or ceramic and comply with HTM64 and HTM04-01 regulations. Both of which are easy to clean, which is extremely important in terms of health and safety regulations.
