North London Charity: Washroom Redesign and Refurbishment - Case Study

A north London charity reached out to us during a large refurbishment of their head offices. Choosing to use a specialist contractor for the washrooms allowed them to not only get a high-end finish but have works delivered in an orderly, well managed, and fast time frame.

This project included two male, two female, and a disabled washroom. Following a site visit and full specification, we began stripping out the old washroom before installing an air extraction system that was hidden behind a new ceiling. Low energy LED lighting was also fitted and controlled by infrared sensors. This meant that the lights would come on only when a user entered the room, switching off automatically after a set period of time.

"I employed Commercial Washrooms to carry out a full renovation of 4 office washrooms. These washrooms were completely transformed. The quality of work is excellent and their site personnel was always of the highest quality. A big thank you to the project manager Paul who was first class. Thanks"

We fitted Altro Walkway flooring, a non-slip vinyl safety flooring, and integrated plumbing system duct sets. This allowed us to conceal all services and pipework within a void hidden out of reach and out of sight of the washroom users.

We produced custom-built solid surface wash troughs for the site, that were installed above a vanity unit made from solid grade laminate, a material that’s completely impervious to water and immensely durable. This was partnered with wall mounted DVS sensor taps that were fitted to a back-painted glass splashback. Above this was custom made mirrors that hang away from the wall with LED strip lighting beneath that light up the hand wash area.

Franke sensor-activated soap dispensers were also installed with a multi-feed system that supplies all dispensers from a single five-litre drum. To keep the room looking smart, we also fitted a recessed paper towel dispenser and bin, as well as a recessed hand dryer from Dolphin.

Full height solid grade laminate cubicles were chosen for the increased privacy and contemporary look, while Armitage Shanks sanitary ware was installed within. In the men’s washrooms, we supplied Jasper Morrison urinals that were partnered with a sensor-activated flush control from Dart Valley Systems.

After some structural alterations, we created a fully compliant disabled room by reconfiguring one of the ladies' washrooms. A full Doc-M pack was used, delivering contrasting coloured grab rails, raised height toilet pan, washbasin, and a tap that can be operated by elbows. We also installed a red emergency pull cord.

We orchestrated works to ensure that the charity’s staff always has the use of washroom facilities throughout the project. This turn-key refurbishment included a full specification and design process and was delivered on time, on budget, and significantly improved the facilities at this organisation’s headquarters.
