How To Fit A Toilet Seat

How To Fit A Toilet Seat

In the commercial wash space, the humble toilet seat is one of those items that fall victim to wear and tear, accidental damage, and vandalism. Broken, damaged, or loose toilet seats not only reflect poorly on your business but can also be very dangerous for your washroom users. The good news is that toilet seats happen to be one of the easiest items to replace.

How to remove a toilet seat

Older toilets may still carry toilet seats that have two elongated bolts that poke down through holes in the porcelain of the toilet pan where a nut or wing-nut is tightened in a narrow space underneath. These need to be undone in order for you to remove the existing toilet seat. However, due to corrosion and the fact many of these fittings often cease up making replacements incredibly difficult, newer toilet seat models carry a more efficient system.

How to remove a toilet seat with hidden fixings

Most modern types of commercial toilets have bolts fitted to the toilet prior to installation that permanently protrude up through openings at the rear of the top of the toilet pan. Toilet seats are then fitted to these bolts via a quick release system. Of course, models will vary slightly, but you will need to lift both parts of the toilet seat to vertical, before pressing the release button, or buttons, allowing you to safely remove the existing toilet seat.

How to tighten a toilet seat

Old fashioned toilet seats with the wing-nut system need to be fastened accordingly to achieve toilet seat tightness and stability. However, some of the more contemporary models with concealed fixings require a different approach. After removing the toilet seat you will be left with two rising bolts. These might be fixed to the porcelain with a screw that fastens down vertically. This may need to be tightened with a screwdriver to deliver stability before refitting the seat.

Where to buy toilet seats

Toilets vary in dimensions and it is important to choose replacement toilet seats that will actually fit properly. If you know the make and model of your toilet, you will be able to obtain a datasheet online which will highlight the shape of the toilet seat that best serves your specific toilet pan. This can then be used to find appropriate toilet seats. You can explore a range of toilet seats on Commercial Washrooms, or get in touch if you require specific models.
